With a small courtyard perfect for storing bicycles, it’s an excellent choice for guests who want to explore Kyoto’s scenic streets on two wheels. Location

Just a 7-minute walk from Kikyo, the Kyoto Imperial Palace stands as a testament to Japan’s imperial history and cultural heritage. Once the residence of Japan’s Imperial family until the capital moved to Tokyo in 1869, the palace features stunning traditional architecture and meticulously maintained grounds. Visitors can marvel at the intricate details of the palace’s structures, including the Shishinden (Hall for State Ceremonies) and the Seiryoden (Emperor’s Residence). The palace is surrounded by the expansive Kyoto Gyoen National Garden, a peaceful urban park perfect for a relaxing stroll, seasonal flower viewing, or an afternoon picnic. With wide walking paths shaded by trees and tranquil ponds, the garden offers a serene escape from the bustle of the city.

A slightly longer journey will take you to Nijo Castle, just 18 minutes on foot or a quick 9-minute bicycle ride from Kikyo. This UNESCO World Heritage site, originally built in 1603 as a residence for Tokugawa Ieyasu, the first shogun of the Edo Period, showcases the grandeur of feudal-era Japan. The castle’s highlights include the Ninomaru Palace, renowned for its beautifully painted sliding doors and the famous “nightingale floors” that chirp when walked upon to protect against intruders. The surrounding gardens, with their seasonal blooms and meticulously arranged stones and ponds, provide a tranquil complement to the castle’s imposing structures. Nijo Castle is a must-visit for history buffs and anyone looking to experience the artistry of Japan’s past.

Kikyo also benefits from excellent transport links. Imadegawa Station on the Karasuma Subway Line is just a 13-minute walk away, offering direct access to Kyoto Station. From there, you can easily explore nearby regions such as Osaka, Nara, and Shiga, making Kikyo an excellent base for both local sightseeing and day trips across Kansai. For guests looking to explore Kyoto at a slower pace, the property’s small courtyard is perfect for storing rental bicycles, giving you the freedom to discover the city’s hidden gems and scenic streets.
