Overview
Rakuyado is a stylish and elegantly simple Kyoto townhouse, designed to ensure the ultimate comfort and flexibility and offer excellent access to the heart of the city and Kyoto’s major attractions. This two-story vacation rental is located just a six minute walk south of JR Kyoto Station, making it great for those who prioritize access to Kyoto and its neighboring attractions.
This two-story home can accommodate up to six guests, with two bedrooms – a western-style room with two generous double beds, and a Japanese-style room with tatami flooring, featuring two single futons which can be folded up to make space for the table and chairs where one can enjoy a warm cup of tea on cold Kyoto evenings. With a simple but fully equipped kitchen that opens up to the cozy living room, the house has been designed to suit laid back communal living and offers a sense of social flow as a great place to gather and plan the next day of your trip. The living room features a three-person sofa which, coupled with the large center table and chairs from the tatami room, can even make a great space for entertaining.
Being a modern style Kyoto townhouse, Rakuyado is easy to keep tidy and suits travelers of all styles, who, no matter the length of their stay, can turn this townhouse into their very own townhome.
Location
Nestled just to the south of Kyoto Station, about six minutes away on foot, Rakuyado’s central and convenient location is just one of its many perks. Being located so close to Kyoto Station, the house is a great place to stay for those wanting to explore Kyoto Prefecture or the neighboring prefectures like Osaka, Nara, or Hyogo with ease. A 6-minute walk east from Rakuyado Higashikujo sits Kyoto’s most iconic waterway, the Kamo River. The area is populated by excellent dining establishments as well as wonderful city views. It’s one of the city’s ‘must visit’ destinations.
About a 15-minute walk north from the house is Shosei-en, a beautiful Japanese-style garden nestled in the heart of the city. With its proximity to Rakuyado Higashikujo, Shosei-en is a great place for a morning stroll to start your day off right.
Just north of Shosei-en is Walden Woods – one of Shiki’s favorite cafes in all of Kyoto. We strongly recommend stopping by for a coffee or tea after you leave Shosei-en.
A great place for enjoying Kyoto outdoors is Umekoji Park, a much-loved local park. It’s a bit far at a 27-minute walk, but with a bicycle that time can be cut in half. The park features a sprawling garden, a railway museum, and an eco-friendly aquarium.

With the living and entertaining space on the first floor, and the sleeping quarters on the second, there’s a clear divide between the spaces, allowing guests to utilize the space the way they wish without intruding on the wants of others.
The entrance of the house opens up to the genkan, which has plenty of storage space for shoes. Immediately to the right are the stairs to the second floor and the first floor restroom. Moving past the stairs, you will find the combination living and dining space complete with a kitchen. Beyond the living room is the washroom complete with a washing machine. The laundry facilities are free to use for guests, making Rakuyado feel even more like a real home away from home.
